Great storage, but there are a few drawbacks.

Review Date: June 29, 2009
Reviewer: D. Bookwalker, Eagle River, Alaska
I own this Franch door style bottom freezer GE Profile refrigerator. It has a lot of great features.

First, I'd like to agree with the reviewer that said the doors don't close properly. In the instruction booklet, it says that if the doors don't close by themselves, they aren't adjusted properly. We haven't had it very long, but I think I'll be calling Sears, where I purchased it, to see if they'll come out and adjust it. There is an alarm that will sound if the doors aren't closed in a few minutes, and I usually hear that. I haven't found that I needed to exert force to close the doors. You just have to shut them yourself, instead of having them close automatically.

Our most serious complaint is that we just aren't getting enough ice from this dispenser. It apparently only makes 6 ice cubes at a time. Even when we're gone almost the whole day, there aren't many cubes available. We do like a lot of ice, and it's frustrating. Today it was very hot out and we were kind of rationing ice cubes with our grandkids. I put the freezer setting to -12 degrees, hoping they would freeze quicker, but that has only helped a little. I'd love to know if anyone has a solution to this. Once again, I'm hoping the Sears guy will come out and help when we call.

That said, this fridge seems great in many other ways. It's roomy, and the storage compartments are awesome! There isn't a lot of space to store bottles on the door because of the ice maker, but I love the huge slide out deli-drawer and the big vegetable bins.

The freezer is very spacious and has storage features that make losing food in the freezer a thing of the past. BIG slide out drawer that I forgot was there after buying it turned out to be very handy for frozen pizza or a big lasagna. There are many pluses. I hope this review has helped others make up their minds about whether to purchase this appliance.
right door doesn't close after left door

Review Date: October 8, 2008
Reviewer: Lund Wolfe, Chandler, AZ
I recently purchased the expensive GE 25 cu ft stainless frig with french doors and two bottom freezer drawers for my new home. The right door has to be slammed to close it when the left door is already closed. Whenever I go back to open the frig I notice it is sticking open. It is a design flaw that two service techs have verified. I have been battling GE for three weeks to give me a different model/type frig that actually works with no luck so far. The customer service department goes through the motions but will not acknowlege the flaw and do the right thing. The best I can hope for is to get a replacement of the same model with the same problem.

Be sure to test your GE french door frig in a showroom before making such a big purchase or you may regret it, like me. No other brands of french door frigs have this problem. The Maytag french door models, also sold under Whirlpool and KitchenAid brands, have a good reputation.

How to Decide Which Refrigerator is Right

french-door-refrigerator-closedRefrigerators are made in various sizes and models. Which model you are going to buy depends on your personal needs and the size of your kitchen. Some of the types offered at the market are French door, counter depth, compact, and commercial refrigerator freezers.

French door refrigerators are the latest models of refrigerators consisting of side-by-side doors and a freezer drawer below. In general, they require a larger 36-inch opening. In comparison with traditional models these ones are wider, and less heavy. Therefore, they cost more. Mostly, they have doors which dispense both ice and water and which can control the interior temperature. There is a door alarm, too. Besides, the doors have shelves wide enough to keep even a gallon of milk, if necessary.
